Primary Age Children
For primary age children I would recommend the Channel 4 Living and Growing DVD which can be borrowed from the resource centre. There are a couple of other recommended resources – details from Caroline Swindells, SRE Development Officer 01422 369278, caroline.swindells@calderdale.gov.uk.
School Nursing Service
School nursing service and advice about SRE can be accessed via Kathy McMahon at St John’s Health Centre 01422 307314/307315.
School House Resource Centre
The Health Improvement Resource Centre, School House, 56 Hopwood Lane, Halifax, HX1 5ER 01422 397340 Mon –Fri 9-4, no appointment necessary, is a good place to go for books, DVD’s leaflets etc.
Families’ Information Service
Also worth checking out The Families' Information Service which helps parents and young people aged 0-20 with many types of enquiry. They have a wide range of information and advice on issues about being healthy, staying safe, enjoying and achieving, making a positive contribution, achieving economic wellbeing and more. Publications from TSA (Trust for the Society of Adolescents) have a 24 page catalogue of books, DVDs, board games and other resources - all about young people and families. Many of the titles have been written by TSA staff and are the outcome of their projects and research. Others have been carefully selected from other specialist organisations.
